Diwali

We have been looking at the Festival of Diwali. The festival is about Lights, so the children have made Candles. To start with I showed them the book we have called “Lightning a Lamp” and they were looking at the terracotta pots with candles in. The children picked the colour of candle they wanted to decorate by adding jewels, coloured circles and strips of shiny paper. We now have the Candle displayed on the Wall.

Tidying Up Outside

During Outdoor Play, we were doing a tidy of the outdoor area especially at the back of the mobile where there were lots of leaves lying around which had fallen from the large tree. The children helped to collect the leaves and put them in the bin bag, which was emptied on the compost heap in the school field.

Reading Books

The children have enjoyed looking at a selection of books we have in our book box. The children choose books to look at by themselves or if they want one of the Ladies can read them a story. The children took turns to look at the books and then pass them on to someone else to look at.

Chocolate Apples

The children have been making some chocolate apples with Kelly. To start with the children helped to break the chocolate which was going to be melted over some hot water using the cooker.

When it was all melted, the children took it in turns to dip their apples into the chocolate and then roll it around in the sprinkles. Hope the children or adults enjoyed them.

Pumpkins

The children have been making up Pumpkins to decorate the classroom with. Karen cut out pumpkin shapes which the children painted using the sponge and they had to do 2, to stick together.

Once dry the children glued them together and then added some black pieces to make faces and a some green pieces for the stalk. They then used the hole punch to make a hole and thread some string through to hang from the ceiling.

Halloween Spiders

Jackie and Jordin have been making these Spiders with the children. To start with the children helped to paint some egg boxes black and once these were eventually dry the fun started.

Jackie started by making holes for the legs. The children threaded a black pipe cleaners through and then they glued some eyes on. Once dry we have hung them in the classroom.

Outdoor Play

At Red Balloon, we are usually out everyday during our morning and afternoon sessions except if it is very wet. Each day we have something different out and today, we had the Outdoor Toys out but the children have access to the Sand Tray, Kitchen and Food.

When the children start we put a line of cones out so they know they can’t go pass it, like wise with the school children know.

Hall Time

During our Hall Time, we went into the School PE Cupboard and brought out some Bean Bags, Small Nets and a box with different plastic shapes in. Some of the girls started to make this line of plastic circles and then adding extra shapes to make it longer. The children took turns to walk along the walk way and adding to it as well.

Painting and Printing

Painting is a popular activity with our children attending this year. We have had painting with brushes and the children have been practicing mixing to see what other colours they can make. The follow week we had painting out again but this time the children were painting with pegs and pom-poms. To start with they were pressing the pegs and the pom-poms were dropping out, but they got the hang of it and we got some lovely patterns.

Fruit & Vegetable Printing

We planned an activity of printing with Fruit and Vegetables. We had collected the some Rhubarb, Apples, Pears and Broad Beans. from the school field. Each child picked a piece of fruit to use and then they had a go at cutting it, with help from myself and Jordin.

After finishing with the fruit and vegetables, we asked the children what else we could use and they said the Cotton Reels, which they used.

Floor Puzzles

The children have been busy making up different Floor Puzzles. The girls have been making up Alphabet, Road, Robot and Number Street Floor Puzzles with different amount of pieces in.

Hall Time

During our Hall Time today we started off with a warm up of Ring a Roses, Jelly on the Plate and Hokey Cokey. Then we played “What’s the time, Mr Wolf,” the children took it in turns to pick a number for the time. We then got some balls from the PE Cupboard and the children enjoyed kicking them in the football net that was sitting and trying to roll on them.

At the end of Hall Time, we choose 2 children to do the bridge, they take it in turns to call on the other children and they go under the bridge and then line up. The children enjoy their time in the Hall.

Carpet Time

We do a Carpet Time everyday and get the children involved as well. We have 2 different jobs that the children help with. We start with finding out what day it is along with the date, month and the children get to pick the weather it is or hope it will be.

Our next job is 2 children help to pick what they would like out the following day to play with. At Carpet Time, we also do some singing, listening to a story and games i.e. what’s in the bag, identifying items as they are pulled from a bag and the children only get to see a little bit of it.

Classroom Activities

The children have been playing with a range of different activities in the Classroom. We have been busy at the Hairdressers, Hoovering around the Sand Tray, completing some weather jigsaws, matching numbers and shapes and playing with the Peppa Pig Figures and our Pink Houses.

Dentist

On Wednesday 11th October we had a visit from 2 Dental Nurses from Brucegate Dental Practice. The children sat on the carpet, where they were shown pictures of different types of food and drinks. The children were asked to give a thumbs up for the food and drinks they thought are good for our teeth and thumbs down for those that are not.


After this the children all had the chance to dress up as dentists or patients which was great fun. They also were able to clean some big teeth with a big toothbrush.

The Flying Scotsman

We all went up to the School Field to wait for and watch The Flying Scotsman come back down. We could see and hear it to start with because of the trees and leaves but then it arrived. As the train went past we were waving and the passengers were waving back which was lovely for the children to see they were being acknowledged.

Outdoor Fun

We had been enjoying the lovely weather while outside and the children have been busy with different activities. We have a tower built from the Wooden Blocks, moving around on our Outdoor Toys, exploring and playing in the Sand Tray and seeing how far we could walk on the Giant Feet

Bubble Painting

For Jordin’s Course, she had to plan a creative activity for the children and she seen some Bubble Blowing Painting. To start with Jordin got an old sock and cut the top of a small juice bottle and secured it together with an elastic band.

The children took it in turns to have a go and make their paintings. Jordin painted strips of red, blue and green paint onto the sock and then it was placed in a bowl of bubble mixture. The children had to blow gentle to get the bubbles to come out and land on the piece of card they had. The bottle was cleaned after each child.

Once everyone had their turn we had a selection of different patterns and designs by the children.

Saving Animals

Jordin set up an activity where the children had to save the animals from eating the pieces of paper which had made its way into the water and on the beach. There was a selection of different sea life animals along with nets and tweezers which the children used to pick up the paper.

After the children had collected the first lot of paper pieces we ripped some more up as they had fun picking them up. The children started to play with the animals and one of the boys had placed a whale on the beach and Sarah started to talk about them getting stuck on the beaches and finding it hard to get back in the water.

We had to get some play people to help the whale, splashing water over it.

Sponsored Sports

It’s that time of year again for our Sponsored Sports. The children were split into the Yellow and Green Teams and they would take part in 6 different races. The races the children were taking part in was Running, Running with a Bean Bag, Quoit on their Head, Jumping through Hoops, Potato and Spoon and Obstacle Course. All the children took part during practises and the younger children got confident the more they did them.

This also helps the children to learn and wait for their turn and to cheer on the other teams while sitting. Thank You to everyone who came along and cheered on the children.
